Coconut Oil
Hi hello!
I'm sure that you've heard about/read about coconut oil a lot lately. I was a tad confused and annoyed about all of the commotion it was getting. I mean, all my life I'd been taught that olive oil was the cure all for hair and healthy eating and all of the sudden coconuts want to try and take over? Please. I had a roommate who swore up and down that coconut oil did wonders for her unruly hair as she slathered it on and dripped all over the kitchen. As it would turn out, she was right!
It wasn't until last month that I even considered buying my own jar of coconut oil. After sitting on Pinterest for a while it's hard not to notice how much coconut oil has managed to affect many of the women I follow. From hair and skin care to cooking and weight loss, coconut oil has had its big break and it is taking over! My interest in coconut oil, however, was prompted by my hair's unmanageable state. I did research and discovered that not only does coconut oil seal the hair shaft, making it hard for humidity to penetrate and cause frizz, but my hair would also absorb the oil and promote hair growth, smoothness, and make it super shiny! I'm a firm believer in using a product for about 2 weeks before having a firm belief on whether or not it works. And boy, oh boy, did coconut oil work!
I started using coconut oil as a pre-shampoo treatment. Meaning that I would put some on my hair and let it sit for about 15 minutes before I would wash it out. I was concerned that using an oil would weigh my hair down as olive oil had done in the past, but coconut oil actually gets absorbed into the hair, so shampooing was a breeze! My hair was soft and silky smooth from the moment I finished washing to the moment I blew it dry. No frizz! Naturally, if it worked on my hair, I figured it would work on my body. And I was not disappointed! I use coconut oil in lieu of body lotion and I mix a tiny bit in with my facial moisturizer to keep my skin moisturized, but not oily. It keeps my skin smooth and healthy looking, not to mention it smells fantastic. I even use it to smooth and moisturize my cuticles! It can do it all!
So there you go. I once was a coconut oil cynic, and here I am, singing its praises! Try it out! Pinterest has plenty of neat ways for you to utilize the benefits of coconut oil! Take it from this super-believer! I haven't quite figured out how to incorporate it into my diet yet, but when I do, I'll let you know.
With love,
L
